Meet Rolla Hamide a teacher at Discover Montessori School where they have Pre-school (2,5 – 6 years), Elementary (6 – 12 years) and Adolescents (12 – 18 years) classes. Here, students and teachers are partners in the process of self-construction and development.

Rolla Hamide is an AMI Montessori guide of elementary students up to the 4th grade. She unites a kindness and principled approach, thinking about big ideas and attention to the small details, recognition of the personality of each child and an invisible support.

– How does Montessori elementary work?

– In Montessori classroom, children make creative choices in their learning while the prepared environment and well trained adult offer appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential.

– What makes a Montessori teacher different?

– Montessori is not teacher-centred; it is child-led. Montessori teachers believe that each child is unique and will progress at their own pace. They observe and take the time to get to know the students in order to create individualised plans to meet each child’s needs.

– As a Montessori guide, define the word “mistakes” in your environment?

– Mistakes are part of the learning process in our environment and viewed as learning opportunities. The goal is to assist children to recognise and resolve their mistakes on their own. Students are taught not to be embarrassed by mistakes, but encouraged to learn in a natural way which includes making and learning from errors and mistakes.

– How is a Montessori school different from any other traditional school?

– There are many ways that Montessori schools are different, such as inspiring love for the natural world, building the strong sense of community, creating global citizens as well as instinctive and active learning.
