Supporting adults on their self-mastery to aid life
“Our main interest must be to educate humanity – the humanity of all nations – to orient it towards common destinies. It is necessary to go back, to refer to the child, to direct the efforts of science towards him, because in him resides the origin and the key to the enigmas of humanity.”
(Maria Montessori, Education and Peace, Garzanti, 1970, p. 33. Brussels, European Peace Congress, 3 September 1936)
Fundamental characteristics of all Montessori programs:
- A trained adult – who knows the developmental stages of the children, youth and adults with whom he interacts.
- A prepared environment – beautiful, tidy and designed for mixed age groups, containing activities that meet the specific needs of the age group. The prepared environment includes indoor and outdoor spaces.
In these circumstances, children, young people and adults find what is necessary for their individual development and at the same time conduct real experiences about what it means to live a fulfilling life in the company of others; what it means to exercise freedom of choice and at the same time take responsibility for the impact of their actions on the well-being of the community and the land in which they live.
Specific Montessori programs are offered at the following levels:
- Child care workers (range 0-3 years old)
- Kindergarten/Children’s Home (3-6 years old)
- Elementary (band 6-12 years)
- Teenagers (12-18 years old)
